Muay in different regions

Muay Thai - Thai map       The martial art of muay has been practiced and developed in many different parts of Thailand. This contributes to unique varieties of muay: Muay Korat, Muay Chaiya and Muay Lopburi. Each of them has their typical techniques and traditions because jungles and mountains hindered the cross communication between tribes. Muay Chaiya was one of the typical varieties of Muay which was thriving in the late 19th century.

However, thanks to the constructions of infrastructure in the era of King Rama V, the new roads through all over the country made communication much easier. Muay fighters could commute to the capital city where they could joined the fighting contests observed by the king himself.

Muay Chaiya is one of the typical varieties of Muay. It was thriving in the late 19th century.
